A NEW VISION FOR DERBYSHIRE DALES OPEN, LOCAL, CLEAN & GREEN10.03.44am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 25th Apr 2007
Manifesto for Derbyshire Dales District Council Elections
Liberal Democrats want a cleaner, greener and stronger community. We believe in freedom, fairness and justice. We are down-to-earth people living in and supporting local communities. We listen and consult.
Liberal Democrats want a 'green' council that cleans up litter and fly tipping, protects our countryside and extends recycling. Sustainability is at the heart of our policies. Tourism is a major source of income for local businesses. We will provide more car parking, including 'park and ride' and fairer parking fees. We will improve facilities for leisure, recreation and the arts for all ages and abilities, whatever their sporting or leisure interests. Opportunities for art and performing arts will be developed, and we will support local events
Economic development is vital if we are serious about sustainable local communities. We will revitalise town centres and support post offices and shops - essential to small businesses. Liberal Democrats want an open council, which consults, involves and listens to local residents, not just ticking the right boxes. Fear of crime is of real concern. Liberal Democrats want more police, compulsory work and training in prisons, compensation for victims of crime and prison sentences which mean what they say. Affordable homes are essential to local communities. Owners of housing sites will receive a fair price and developers will have to provide 40% of affordable housing. Incentives will be available for social housing and housing associations. Young people's will be listened to. We will consult youth representatives on policy so that changing needs are met.
