Nick Clegg launched Make it Happen, the Liberal Democrats' vision and values paper, on Thursday 17th July. The paper will be the subject of one of the key debates at the Bournemouth conference in September.

Liberal democrats are looking for ways to cut Britain's overall tax burden as proposed in Make it Happen and described in Reducing the Tax Burden, so households on low and middle incomes have more of their money to help themselves as described in a briefing document

This proposal is in addition to our existing 'tax switch' policy - cutting the basic rate of income tax by 4p in the pound, financed by green taxes and taxes on the wealthy. This would cut taxes for a majority of households but would, overall, be revenue neutral.
