In Ashbourne either the lorries are too big or the roads too small.
By Peter Dobbs
It happens all the time in the Derbyshire market town of Ashbourne - two large vehicles meet each other in the narrow roads. It is usually the pavements that provide a way to pass each other (with pedestrians having to get out of the way) but on this occasion even the pavement didn't provide sufficient room and the two vehicles locked against each other causing traffic to back up through the town.
Eventually they broke free, with the loss of paint and some bent metal but it reveals how seriously overloaded the roads in this town are becoming. Surely either the large lorries must find another route or wider roads must be provided.
A local group have stated a petition to introduce a weight limit for Ashbourne.
