Cllr Ruth SkeltonLocal Liberal Democrats are pleased to report that all Derby City Councillors from all parties unanimously supported a motion put forward by the Liberal Democrat Group at the Full Derby City Council meeting on 22nd July 2020. It calls on the government to provide specialist sector support for Rolls-Royce and the UK Aerospace industry in general.

Cllr Ruth Skelton (Lib Dem Cllr for Blagreaves ward) said, "Many of us either work or know someone who works at Rolls-Royce. This shows how important Rolls-Royce is for our city's economy, not only for people who work there, but wider in terms of the supply chain and other businesses that benefit from people who work there. Given the redundancies announced locally by both Rolls-Royce and Incora as well as in Airlines such as Easyjet and British Airways, it is vital that there is support for the jobs of the many residents in the ward who have contacted me about this."

We believe the current situation needs to be used as an opportunity to invest in green technologies so that the Aerospace industry can significantly lower its carbon footprint. Government investment in research and development now would make all the difference.
