Dr Steve Martin

Dr Stephen Martin has held senior posts in universities, business and in the civil service. He has been active in the Liberal Democrat Party over many years and has served as chair of the Mid Worcestershire Liberal Democrat party and stood as a Euro parliamentary candidate for the West Midlands and as a parliamentary candidate in Tewkesbury in the 2001 general election. He was supported by over 11, 000 votes; a credible 27% of the constituency. He believes that if successful as a candidate in the local elections in Darley Dale, he can campaign for better provision of new housing in areas of social need and in locations with adequate health and education provision. And, above all supporting energy efficient housing in areas where the social and environmental impact on the natural beauty of the Derbyshire landscape is minimal.

He has campaigned nationally on a number of crucial environmental issues relating to education and the professions. He organised an adjournment debate in the Commons on the place of environmental education in the national curriculum. His current interests include support for more green technologies to help our ailing economy and more help for pensioners and families who are finding the escalating costs of living an increasing and unnecessary burden.

He is an Honorary Fellow of the Society for the Environment and a Fellow of the World Wide Fund for Nature. He is one of the co-founders and long serving chair of Transition Evesham Vale; a strong supporter of local food and the micro- generation of our own electricity needs.
