Candidate announced for Carsington Water By-election 5th May
Local campaigner, 'Monty' Stuart-Monteith will be standing as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Carsington Water ward in the forthcoming by-election on Thursday 5th May.
Monty comments "I am delighted to be chosen as the Lib Dem candidate for the area I live in. Atlow has been my home for 23 years and it is where I run a small business, employing local people. Previously I spent 10 years in the Army seeing operational service in Northern Ireland and the Falkland Islands (soon after the war) and then 5 years with big international companies before starting my own business in 1995.
The Derbyshire Dales has been a wonderful spot in which to bring up the family and run a company.
I have always been interested in local politics and feel this is a good time to make a more active contribution to the community.
I have a particular passion for the key liberal democratic principles of liberty and equality and I believe these should be reflected in the practical issues and decision making in the ward and on the District Council."
Voting in elections is one of the few ways that we get to tell those who govern us what we think. A lack of openness and honesty in decision making seems to have pervaded all levels of government with decisions made with little scrutiny by just a few people. Decisions are then voted through with little dissent allowed, whatever the quality of argument made in opposition to the proposal.
Lib Dems are the second largest party on the District Council - by voting Lib Dem you will ensure greater scrutiny of District Council decision making.
By voting for a Liberal Democrat councillor you will be sending a message that you wish to be listened to and not taken for granted.
