Residents and visitors to Ashbourne can now check the air in the town centre for some key pollutants including nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5).

This monitor is one of a number located throughout the town which have been installed as part of an Air Quality Action Plan designed to address the issue of high levels of Nitrogen Dioxide on Buxton Road and St John’s Street. This pollution hot spot was brought to light following the campaigning by Lib Dem District Councillor Peter Dobbs.

Peter comments, “This new source of data will not only alert the traffic management system of abnormally high pollution levels but will also help us understand the way the pollution varies from hour to hour during the day."
