Energy Security? Yet another lie from Sunak's Government
The government has announced the go ahead for the Rosebank oilfield off the Shetlands. Putting aside urgent environmental issues the Government claimed:
"It's great news that the regulator has given Rosebank the green light," says Scottish Secretary Alister Jack. "The North Sea has a huge role to play in ensuring the UK's energy security while we transition to net zero."
But this is not true, at a briefing for the press the Norwegian state oil company Equinor - which is the majority owner of Rosebank Oil field confirmed: "If the UK needs Rosebank oil, it will go to the UK through open market mechanisms". That means that if there is another energy crisis then this oil will NOT be available to the UK unless we are the highest bidder. It does nothing to enhance our energy security or to protect consumers from the fluctuating prices of the workdwide oil market.
We are no better off today than yesterday when it comes to energy security and if the Government had been serious about this then a clause in the licence would have given us preferential access.
This Tory government hides the truth of its incompetence behind a fabric of lies. No wonder voters sat they can't trust them.
