Here we go again!

Food waste collections from the small green kerbside caddy are again being suspended by Derbyshire Dales District Council. This is currently stated as being for 4 weeks from 1st March.

The request from the council is to place food waste in the grey / black bin (or black bag for certain rounds) but as we reported last year, this is most undesirable since it create extra methane that is a most potent greenhouse gas.

So if you possibly can, simply put any food waste on your compost heap.

It appears that Vital Earth in Ashbourne have ceased their composting operations for garden and kitchen waste. Although alternative facilities are in place for some of the district's garden waste, the future arrangements for kitchen waste have not yet been finalised.
