NICE TO SEE YOU, TO SEE YOU NICE!
When even the Commons Speaker takes a sarcastic dig at him on his noticeably intermittent appearances in Parliament, then the Prime Minister definitely has a woeful reputation. He has plumbed the depths of avoiding scrutiny by being even worse than Liz Truss in attendance at PMQs. In fact he has the worst record of any PM prepared to face PMQs since 1979!
The only conclusion we can draw is that he is either running scared of scrutiny from the opposition or he dare not say anything in person that would upset his own party and particularly the ERG. The whole point of a Prime Minister is to take responsibility for his actions, not hide when the 'proverbial' hits the fan and he has to answer for his government's decisions and choices. He has a penchant for delegating tough talking to others, who often seem less than enamoured to be asked to step in. Sunak likes sharp suits and snappy ties but hides from sharp words and snappy rIpostes.
When he became Prime Minister he promised to govern with integrity and yet he has chosen to miss both the recent vote on the Privileges Committee censuring Boris Johnson and then the debate that censured the Tory MPs who sought to undermine their work.
His is a teflon approach to responsibility, duck and dive and deliver bland platitudes in the hope nobody contradicts. But the Conservatives have dragged us into such a mire of inflation, debt and failing services that questions from across the house must be answered by the PM in person not sidelined to a subordinate. His reputation for weakness in the face of adversity is mounting, but with that comes peril for all of us in Britain.
