The NHS - Not safe in their hands

Let there be no mistake, the formation of the NHS in post war years Britain was a triumph for democracy and sane politics. The years of fear of not being able to pay the 'doctors' bill, were swept away and free health care for all became a guiding light. It has become such a common feature of our lives that we have forgotten to treasure it, taken its existence for granted. But that is a mistake we will all live to regret. Long years of under funding, whether through intention or not has led us to a precipice of shocking decline and vulnerability to the rapacious appetites of private health care.

The NHS is lying mortality damaged by consistent neglect and private enterprises are circling, picking over the bones, choosing the easy to extract, juicy contracts, leaving the wrecked and almost lifeless ageing carcass to breath its last.

Presiding over this for the last 13 years have been the Conservatives, whose core instincts for private enterprise are a danger to a properly funded, well run national health service. Those values have been laid bare through the ugly revelations of contracts for PPE awarded to buddies and their companies during COVID. But it hasn't stopped there, now we hear of decisions made in back rooms of No10 to award contracts to private companies to reduce the NHS waiting list.

A tortuous trail of who knows who leads inevitably to conclusions that the NHS is being dismantled by stealth in the guise of solving a health care catastrophe.

We cannot let the Conservatives win another election or we will see the end of the NHS, the warning is stark but already evident in their underhand manoeuvrings.
