Tory Leadership Election - Sauce for the goose?

Clearly they don't trust first past the post!

It is interesting to observe how the outdated electoral process that the Conservative Party are adamant we retain for electing MPs, is regarded as not suitable for electing their own party leader.

Their elaborate and time consuming process of various elimination rounds to whittle candidates down to a final two could be replaced by simply looking at the total votes awarded in the first round.

If they (correctly) regarded this as incapable of delivering a compromise candidate, most likely to unite the party, then why is first past the post inflicted on us for electing MPs?

It is also puzzling why they have not adopted a single transferable vote system and removed the tedious process of several rounds of elimination.

It is highly likely that the top two candidates to emerge from their convoluted process would be the same as with an STV mechanism. However STV would be delivering the result in a fraction of the time.
