We need to talk about Suella

Suella Braverman, current Home Secretary and erstwhile contender for the top job, belies her name; she is not brave merely using political posturing to promote herself once again as a leader candidate. She doesn't have to try too hard, the door to that office is practically hanging off its hinges. Sunak is the flotsam and jetsam of his party's rightwing, ineffectual and grasping at any object that might help float his boat.

So Suella, not one to retire into a quiet corner and actually do her job, is striding the Tory stage megaphone in hand, shouting loud enough to be heard, over the common herd of Tory MPs, by the conservative press. Her goal is to appear in banner headlines as often as possible, undermining Sunak at every turn. Some, in Tory ranks, even think her aim is precisely to be sacked by Sunak. There is nothing quite as elevating to a Tory hopeful as being sacked.

But whilst she is on a solo crusade for stardom, she is undermining democracy and promoting restrictions on OUR freedoms. Her attack on the Metropolitan Police and its chief Sir Mark Rowley, is just the latest example. No matter whether we agree with a demonstration's sentiment, as long as it is peaceful and has been agreed to by the policing authority, then it has a right to go ahead. Freedom of the expression of opinion is a hard won liberty and should be protected, if we don't agree with something we ALL have the right to peacefully show that.

Suella Braverman, does not uphold our rights when she accuses the police service of bias, she is only serving her own ambitions. The weakness at the heart of this government is manifested by Braverman's posturing. The decay within is evident, they have to go before they take the whole edifice down and democracy suffers.

Even Sunak should realise now that it is time she went.
