What wouldn’t she vote for?
How long must our country be subjected to the trauma of uncertainty and incompetence? The economy is staggering to a halt, inflation rising and our reputation trashed.
However the inadequacies of the Truss's leadership were not hers alone.
With Boris Johnson, trust was sidelined and incompetence rewarded. Conservative MPs regarded loyalty to the leadership as a game to be played, sycophancy was rewarded and unthinking, uncaring policies abounded.
Voting was no longer a question of reasoned judgement, but a badge of loyalty. Sarah Dines MP voted consistently to follow the party line.
In 2021 she voted with the government to quash the Lord's amendment 45 of the Environment Bill, that would have held companies to account for emptying sewage into our river systems. The Derwent and Wye rivers, and others, are vital sources of fresh water that flow through our county and yet she chose not the protect them.
Yesterday she could have joined principled colleagues in preventing the potential of fracking coming to Derbyshire, but she didn't. She chose instead to follow the Conservative whip, more fearful of being disenfranchised than of betraying her constituents whilst helping to renege on a manifesto pledge.
Ms Dines is loyal to her party not her constituents.
