Where have all the HGVs gone?

A study by the Buxton Road Residents Group of Ashbourne has established that during Shrovetide there was a 40% reduction in HGVs using the highly polluted Buxton Road.
'Shrovetide football' is a hugely popular game but one that is well known for blocking roads and bringing traffic to a standstill.
So not surprising then you say - HGV drivers simply find another route to avoid the mayhem in Ashbourne.
Well possibly, except we have been repeatedly told that drivers cannot 'find another route' without causing problems elsewhere. 'They must come through Ashbourne'.
Well at least 73 of them didn't on the afternoon of Wednesday 22nd February 2023.

• Did they go another way?
• Were there traffic issues anywhere else?
• Or were the drivers given the day off (perhaps so they could participate in Shrovetide football?
