Who cares for the carers?
Simple answer WE DO. For too long those forgotten people caring for family and friends, have gone unrecognised and undervalued, even by themselves sometimes. This stops with the Lib Dems. We know what it means to care, day in day out, feel exhausted, isolated with little or no support.
Ed Davey in his conference address has pledged £5 billion a year to guarantee free care packages for all who need them in England; the attentions of a carer either at home or in a care setting would be free of charge. £3 billion a year would be clawed back through savings to the NHS. Helping people to leave hospital and return to their homes frees up beds in a struggling NHS.
But don't just take our word for it. Kirsty McHugh the CEO of the Carers Trusts said "Carers Trust welcomes the Liberal Democrats commitment to supporting unpaid carers, tackling the crisis in social care."
Ed Davey was a carer for his mother and now cares for his son. He understands and it matters to him. Join us and him in supporting carers.
