Sue Burfoot

I worked for over 25 years in the Learning Support Department of Highfields School and have lived in Matlock for over 40 years with my husband Martin. Our two grown up daughters both attended local schools.

I have been a District Councillor for Matlock West since 2003 and am Vice Chair of the planning committee and a member of the Licensing Committee.

I have served as County Councillor for Matlock and Tansley for the last 8 years and am a member of the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

As County Councillor, I have campaigned on many local issues including flooding, the state of our roads, road safety issues, speeding traffic and the need for pedestrian crossings, sewage issues, the selling off of DCC assets without giving preference to local community groups and many more.

I opposed the closing and selling off of care homes and day centres and the withdrawal of all discretionary grants to voluntary groups such as befriending groups.

I have also taken up many issues reported to me by local residents helping them to navigate their way through the complexities of the County Council systems.

The Tories have been in control of DCC for eight years and during their time have failed to manage the budget effectively leading them to make cuts affecting the most vulnerable in our society. They have let down our elderly residents and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. They have sold off assets and cut front line services whilst employing consultants at huge cost.

We need more Lib Dem County Councillors to put an end to this madness.
